Your wallet shows gift cards you have claimed, money you or a business added to your balance, and account credit a business has issued to you. Balances are grouped by the business that issued them.
Claim a gift card#
Use the claim link in the gift card email, or go to Account > Wallet and click Claim.
After the gift card is claimed, its remaining balance appears in your wallet. If you cannot claim it, check that the code has not already been claimed, expired, or cancelled.
Top up your balance#
You can add money to your balance at a business that uses account balances.
- Go to Account > Wallet.
- Expand the business and select Top up. If you have no balance there yet, select Top up next to Top up your balance at the business.
- Choose 25, 50, or 100, or enter a whole amount from 10 to 1,000 under Or enter an amount. Amounts are in the business's currency.
- Select Continue with the amount, then pay by card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay.
Your balance goes up as soon as the payment is confirmed. If the payment does not go through, no money is taken.
A top-up is not a purchase, so it has no VAT invoice. VAT is charged on what you later pay for with the balance.
If a top-up payment is refunded, the part of that top-up you have not spent is frozen and cannot be used again. If the payment is disputed with your bank, that part is frozen while the dispute is open. It becomes spendable again only if the business wins every dispute on that payment.
Money a business adds for you#
A business can also add money to your wallet at the desk, for example when you pay in cash. Ask at the desk if you want a receipt: the business can email one with the amount added and your new wallet balance, or print one if it has a receipt printer.
Money added to your balance, by you or by the business, does not expire. It shows in your wallet as Account top-up, with no code and no expiry date.
Use wallet balance#
When you book or buy from a business with available wallet balance, choose the wallet option at checkout if it is offered for that purchase. At a business's point of sale, staff can also take payment for a shop item, such as a drink, from your wallet.
Gift card balance is spent first, then money added to your balance.
Wallet balances belong to the business that issued them. A balance from one business is shown separately from balances issued by another business.
View balances#
Go to Account > Wallet. Expand a business to see each entry:
- A claimed gift card shows its remaining amount, sender, code, and expiry date when there is one.
- Account top-up is money you or the business added. It has no code and does not expire.
- Balance carried over is a balance the business brought over for you.
- Course credit and other account credit show their description and amount. Account credit does not carry an expiry date.
If a gift card expires soon, the wallet marks it so you can use it before the expiry date.
See your wallet activity#
When you expand a business, Activity lists recent changes to your balance there, newest first, with the date, the amount, and your balance after it:
- Money added, Balance carried over, Gift card added, and Course credit added show value coming in.
- A payment from your wallet names what it paid for, such as the court and time, the class, or the items.
- Returned to your wallet shows value given back, for example after a purchase that did not go through.
- Top-up refunded shows the unspent part of a top-up that was refunded. It left your balance and cannot be used.
- Top-up disputed shows the unspent part of a top-up that is disputed with your bank, or where the dispute was lost. If the business wins every dispute on that payment, the amount is spendable again and this line no longer shows.
- Expired shows gift card value that left your wallet when the card expired or was cancelled.
Send or download a gift card#
Go to Account > Gift Cards to manage gift cards you bought.
From there, you can:
- add or edit recipient details
- send or resend the gift card by email when it has a recipient
- download the gift card PDF
- check whether it has been claimed
- see its remaining balance and status
If you update the recipient after the gift card was already sent, saving the new details does not resend it automatically. Use Send or Resend when available.
If you manage gift cards for a business, see Gift Cards.
If the balance looks wrong#
Wallet balances update after top-ups, purchases, refunds, claims, and expiry. Check Activity for the business to see each change. If the balance still looks wrong after refreshing the page, contact the business that issued the gift card or credit.
